You've mapped out your project and decided on the style of pavers you want to use. There's just one last detail to work out... What color will your pavers be? There's really no right or wrong when it comes to paver colors and there are many options to choose from. Colors vary greatly and when chosen carefully, they can have a dramatic effect for how your project looks when all is said and done. Here are a few tips to help you with selecting the right paver colors... Find Inspiration Before selecting the colors of your pavers, seek out inspiration from your own neighborhood. Really look at the details of the homes you pass by and any pavers you see - pay attention to what you are drawn to. Maybe it's a color of a door, the highlights of the foliage, other details of the architecture. When looking at your own home, consider the same point of view - what catches your eye? What are you drawn to that could be accentuated with the pavers? Look at the Application You should also consider the application for where the pavers will be installed. This is something many homeowners overlook but it can make a big difference. For example, if the pavers are going in a space where people will often walk barefoot, such as around a pool, you should consider a lighter color to help reflect the heat. If the application is a driveway, perhaps a darker color would be better to help camouflage stains from tires and or any spills/leaks from vehicles. Complement Key Elements When deciding color, consider the key elements in your space that could be complemented by the pavers. For instance, what is the architecture of your home? Are there fences or decks the pavers will be near? What is the exterior color of your home? Consider an Accent or Border If narrowing things down to just one color seems like an impossible challenge, consider bringing in a second color for a border or as an accent color. And, if you use this color with surrounding planters, or other smaller features, you can create a really special space. Test Your Color(s) Dry and Wet One last tip... Once you have your color(s) selected, be sure to test how the colors will feel in the space. You can pick up a few pavers to sample in your space pretty easily. Hold them up to the exterior of your house and other key elements to make sure the colors will work. But, be sure to look at the colors of the pavers when they are both dry and wet. This is critical as colors are more vibrant in pavers when wet and/or when coated with a protective sealant. The team at Graham Landscape & Design has a lot of experience working with pavers in a variety of applications, such as patios and driveways. If you have questions, we would be happy to help! I've been wanting to get pavers laid down around my garden, so I can enjoy my garden without needing to walk in the grass. You wrote that you should consider the application for where the pavers will be, when considering the color and design of your pavers. I think bright colors would be great, as it would be a nice contrast to my existing garden. Thanks for the great ideas.
